Artificial Intelligence is an omnipresent term in every field, but what does it mean for music? This lecture will explore some answers to that question. It will focus on three areas: studio production, performance, and research, unpacking the tools being used and the challenges being faced by each. AI raises many questions in the arts: of authorship, copyright, originality, and creativity. None of these questions have simple answers, but this lecture will provide a picture of how they are being discussed and addressed, and how artists are making meaningful, forward-looking art in tandem with – or in opposition to – the disruptive technology of AI.
