Is Neutrino Astronomy Real?

Neutrinos are almost undetectable particles.  Astronomy is about detecting things.  So how can we talk about neutrino astronomy?

Although neutrinos have been detected from a few sources, the field is just beginning.  What are the prospects for further detections?  What would we gain if we are successful?
