The Fermilab Art Gallery<\/span><\/span> presents a dynamic rotation of exhibitions that explore the intersection of art and science. It is open to visitors Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. located in Wilson Hall on the second floor.<\/p>\n

Open Call to the Community<\/h4>\n

Visualizing the Unseen: The Quantum World<\/b><\/h4>\n

Why is the quantum world so hard to picture \u2014could artists help us imagine it?<\/p>\n

The Quantum world doesn\u2019t behave like the world we experience every day.<\/p>\n

In our daily lives, things seem definite \u2014 a light is either on or off. But in the quantum world, particles can exist in multiple states at once. A qubit \u2014 the basic unit of quantum computing \u2014 can be both \u201con\u201d and \u201coff\u201d at the same time until it is measured.<\/p>\n

So how do you draw, paint, sculpt or photograph that?<\/p>\n

Quantum physics can describe these ideas with precise mathematics, but they are difficult to turn into images we can easily understand. Visualizing them using everyday thinking is like trying to imagine a color you’ve never seen.\u00a0Can you help bridge that gap? \u2014 creating ways to see and feel ideas that are otherwise invisible.<\/p>\n

Free to enter – Juried – Art work must be ready to hang – Must be 18 years or older and a U.S. citizen to participate<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Up to 2 submissions per artist-upload to this Google Form<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2022 Include an artist statement (how does the image relate to Quantum?) -150 words\u00a0maximum<\/p>\n

\u2022 Size limit per piece: 36 inches x 48 inches maximum<\/p>\n

Your work could be featured in the Fermilab Art Gallery. The gallery is always accepting proposals from artists whose work highlights the intersection between art and STEM.<\/p>\n
