Be a part of pARTicles 2.0

Whether or not you call yourself an artist, your creativity may be displayed in the Fermilab Virtual Art Gallery. Consider participating in the Fermilab pARTicles 2.0 online exhibition, which will shine a “Spotlight on Science.

Gather your art supplies, get inspired, have some fun, learn something new, create, snap a photo, and submit!

Looking for inspiration?
Think about what image “science” conveys to you. At Fermilab there are many abbreviations and fascinating words for science — CMS, DUNE, Muon g-2, PIP-II, quantum. Scroll down Fermilab’s home page at Fermilab | Home (fnal.gov) for some great examples.

Want to inspire a child? Take an interactive animated journey through the particle physics alphabet for some ideas at https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/article/the-abcs-of-particle-physics
Teen or tween? Check out the many resources from the 2021 Fermilab Virtual Family Open House, held this past February, at https://ed.fnal.gov/events/openhouse

Digitally photograph your entry and save it in .jpg format (preferred size 72 dpi, 2,500 pixels on the longest side). Your creation could be a drawing, sculpture, or painting, or even a computer-generated or mixed-media piece.

Submission is free, two entries per person. Only original artwork will be accepted. Artists of all ages are welcome!

Please note that an artist’s statement—while not mandatory—is encouraged. You can share your thoughts, inspirations, and techniques, as well as the story behind your submission. After you create your art, consider writing a few words about your effort. What you have to say may just inspire another artist or even a future scientist!

If you have questions email art@fnal.gov

Your art submission allows Fermilab to use your image on Fermilab’s website as well as for other purposes, including promotional purposes, at any time. Submission of your art is a certification that the art is your original work and is not copied or reproduced from any other source. Artists under the age of 18 must have a signature of a parent or legal guardian. Fermilab reserves the right to not include in the Fermilab Virtual Art Gallery any image that is not original, that is found to be offensive, or that is deemed unusable for any other reason.

We look forward to receiving your artwork.
